As always, I’ve taken it upon myself to pack in too many updates for the next esprit release. Aside from the Joomla one-click driver update and basic symlink support, here’s a listing of other notable changes sitting on the development server pending completion:

  • Symlink target autocompletion
  • Portable/non-portable symlink warnings; non-portable are unable to be read by Apache (e.g. ln /var/www/html/ foo)
  • Multiple file upload
  • Further conversion of File Manager’s jumbled JavaScript to lightweight (comparatively speaking of course) jQuery methods
  • WordPress 2.2.3 update
  • File rename support

As you probably know from experience, I am terrible when it comes to providing ETAs of releases. I will arbitrarily say the next release is due out “soon”. New symlink support lays the foundation of moving the subdomain management from Ensim to esprit. Likely you’ll see that afterwards, but in the meanwhile don’t forget that you can assign subdomains from the shell.

Sounds purty awesome. Perhaps this is not the place to ask, but does the moving of subdomain management mean we’ll see our subdomains pre-data-center-move listed in ‘Subdomain List’ again?

Bingo, you’re on the mark. I rewrote how subdomains are managed on the servers to avoid the dreaded Apache reload after every subdomain removal/addition. Unfortunately that bears the problem of killing the older configuration files. The new facility will also give you the ability to setup subdomains for only a given secondary domain too. I’ll need to replace the Add User/Manage Users section and the control panel front-end will be 100% Ensim-free (hallelujah). I can’t tell you how great it is not having to worry about servers mysteriously going down or imploding during the day ;).

Edit: ha, I just checked their forums today and Ensim as we know it is no more. Ensim sold its control panel to SWSoft. Good riddance. Hopefully SWSoft is smart and decides to change the name to hide that mistake of a control panel.
